BBI hoops: LSGH wins; LSCA holds foe scoreless for entire period

MANILA, Philippines – La Salle Greenhills defeated Ateneo de Manila High School, 86-65, in the Under-14 Division of the Alcatel BBI tournament at the Moro Lorenzo Sports Center.

Behind James Ison’s game-high 39 points, LSGH shot well in the first half, weathered a third quarter surge by Ateneo, before finishing strong to win their first match of the summer tournament. Ateneo lost their first match.

The Greenies poured in 52 first half points to Ateneo’s 32 and looked like they had the game in hand. Ateneo looked to make a game of it when they came out of the third period with a 7-0 blast. However, three consecutive misses from the field sandwiched by two missed free throws late in the period hurt the Blue Eaglets’ cause, while La Salle hit some shots to minimize the damage, 70-54, going into the final frame.

In the fourth period, La Salle made their best defensive stand to hold Ateneo to 11 points while scoring 16 of their own to take the game.

Ethan Gammad (17 points and 12 rebounds) and Achilles Ocampo (11 points) backstopped Ison’s splurge.

Luis Barros led Ateneo with 14 points while Chad Diokno added 11.

In the tournament’s Under-19 division, Azul held off a late rally by English Christian Academy, 77-71, to win their first game of the campaign. ECA dropped to 0-2.

Amchel Angeles led Azul with 23 points while Mark Lim and Andre Santos added 14 and 13 markers, respectively.

Jayvee Cabasbas and Mark Jacobe led ECA with 10 points each.

In the Under-12 division, La Salle College of Antipolo blew out Go Hard basketball club, 62-27. LSCA held Go Hard scoreless for the entire second quarter, a tournament record, while knocking down 12 of their own in this rout.

Zacc Doloeras led LSCA with 12 points with teammate Prince Cordon adding 11.

In the same division, LSGH crushed club team, Warriors, 58-30, behind Dylon Natividad’s monstrous output of 26 points and 34 rebounds. He added two blocks and a steal to his superlative effort.
