MANILA, Philippines (Update 2, 5:01 p.m.) – The tip-off for Game Two of the UAAP Finals between Ateneo and UP on Wednesday was delayed for a few minutes after an argument over the leg brace worn by the Fighting Maroons’ Bright Akhuetie.

The Ateneo coaching staff led by assistant Sandy Arespacochaga questioned the legality of the leg brace worn by Akhuetie, who wore the support strap after an injury incurred in Game One last Saturday.

Ateneo cited a FIBA rule disallowing the wearing of such equipment.

According to the FIBA rule: "Players shall not wear equipment (objects) that may cause injury to other players."

The game officials agreed, telling the UP coaching staff that Akhuetie must do away with the leg brace or else the Nigerian won’t be able to play.

The newly minted UAAP MVP eventually complied.
