Creamline twits Adamson, gains No. 1 seed
MANILA, Philippines — Creamline clinched the No. 1 seed as it decimated Adamson-Akari, 25-7, 25-11, 25-10 at the end of eliminations in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at the Batangas City Coliseum yesterday.
The Cool Smashers wasted no time in dumping the Lady Falcons, racing to the straight-set win to tie the BanKo-Perlas Spikers at 11-3. They claimed the top seeding on superior points.
Creamline thus set up a best-of-three semis duel with fourth-ranked Petro Gazz while BanKo-Perlas, which earlier escaped upset-conscious Tacloban, 25-22, 25-19, 29-31, 11-25, 15-11, settled for the second seed and arranged its own Last Four meeting with No. 3 Ateneo-Motolite, both beginning Wednesday.
Adamson-Akari finished with a harrowing 0-14 card.
The Cool Smashers crippled the Lady Falcons with a 17-0 bomb in the first set behind Jema Galanza, Alyssa Valdez and Risa Sato then Michele Gumabao joined the fray in the second for Creamline to sustain the one-sided show.
The quartet continued to display their offensive prowess in the third, keeping Creamline in control the rest of the match.
BanKo-Perlas went to Nicole Tiamzon and Sasa Devanadera, who combined for six of the Spikers’ last seven points to thwart the Fighting Warays.
Tacloban pushed the match to the decider as it won the third and fourth sets and still had the chance to steal it in the fifth, saving the match point twice until Tiamzon ensured the victory for BanKo-Perlas with a hit.
