Senate, 2 others share UNTV lead

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Senate, Judiciary and Philippine National Police scored contrasting victories to keep their share of the lead in the second UNTV Cup Executive Face-Off at the Pasig City Sports Center over the weekend.

With Sen. Joel Villanueva on the firing end, the Senate Sentinels clobbered the GSIS Furies, 90-57, to notch their second straight win. The former UST cager finished with a season-high 34 points and helped anchor the team’s defense that held the Furies to just 10 points in the opening quarter.

Warren Tan backed Villanueva with 17 points while five other Senate players added four points or more.

The PNP Responders, on the other hand, rode on a big fourth quarter run to demolish the Ombudsman Graftbusters, 83-58, and draw level with the Sentinels in the event presented by UNTV President and CEO Daniel Razon.

The Responders pulled away from a 55-48 count with a series of runs in the payoff period on their way to 25-point romp.

Judiciary, meanwhile, outlasted defending champions AFP, 67-66, to likewise stay unbeaten in the event offering P1 million to the chosen charity of the champion team.
