BBI kicks off 4th season with seniors tourney

MANILA, Philippines – The Breakdown Basketball Invitationals will kick off its fourth season at the Moro Lorenzo Sports Center beginning with its summer tourney that tips off this April 13.

The age group competition will include Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, Under-17, Under-19, as well as Under-25 men’s and women’s.

Aside from the various age group basketball competition, the BBI braintrust added a men’s senior tourney to the calendar making this a tournament that includes boys’ women’s and now, men’s competition.

Taking part in the men’s tourney are Ateneo, Mapua, National University, St. Clare and the University of the Philippines. One more college team that has yet to be named will participate.

In the women’s division, joining the action are Adamson, Ateneo, Centro Escolar University, College of St. Benilde, Far Eastern University, University of the Philippines and Discovery Perlas as a guest team.

The BBI, one of the biggest grassroots basketball programs with age group competition across six age brackets, is coming off a stellar year wherein they conducted their first ever national finals that involves six cities including its first ever women’s competition.

Xavier School’s Under 17 and Under 12 teams recently bagged a double championship in BBI’s first ever Nationwide Battle of Champions while Centro Escolar University romped away undefeated in the inaugural women’s tilt.

“More than anything, we at BBI are humbled by what has been achieved,” glowed league founder Jay Adevoso. “Our first 25-Under women’s tournament. Our first nationwide tournament. Kids from Iloilo and Cavite being discovered by NCR schools because of NBOC —we really can’t ask for more. We thank all our friends and partners for the support and making this happen. We take a lot of pride in providing a national platform for all these schools and kids. On to the next.”

The BBI stages three conferences in a season — one for the summer, one for the first semester, and one for the second.
