MANILA, Philippines – Troy Rosario got word of his return into the Gilas fold on short notice. On Sunday night, against the limping Japan national team, he made sure his production was just as swift.

Coming off an injury that hurt his shooting hand and jaw,  Rosario made his presence felt. He got going with four points just as soon as he entered the game in the opening salvo. When Gilas clawed its way back from a 14-point deficit, the versatile forward added 10 more to help his team wrest control.

By halftime, the results were evident: Rosario has regained his lethal form and Gilas was back in the ball game.

When asked about his performance -- one that perhaps helped the Philippines avert disaster against the tough-as-nails Akatsuki Five, the soft-spoken TNT cager said he was simply repaying the trust given to him.

Rosario was unable to add to his production but his contribution to Gilas' valiant stand before a frenzied home crowd at the Mall of Asia was both undeniable and indelible.

Gilas' momentum -- one they built on the foundation of Rosario and Kiefer Ravena's performances -- proved to be crucial as the Japanese tried to come back.

Troy for trey... bang!

Over and over. Again and again.

Until a fellow returnee to the lineup took over.
