Makati, Bulacan softbelles pace Cebuana tilt

MANILA, Philippines — Makati A nipped last year’s runner-up Tanauan A, 2-1, to stretch its win run to five while San Miguel, Bulacan hiked its record to 4-0 with a 23-0 rout of Taguig in Group A of the Cebuana Lhuillier-AsaPhil 18-and-under Women’s Softball Championships in Marikina City recently.

Tanauan, which earlier edged Manila, 2-1, dropped to 2-1 but remained in the hunt in the tournament organized by AsaPhil as part of its grassroots program and backed by Cebuana Lhuillier Group of Companies.

Meanwhile, Pasig swept two provincial teams, whipping Cauayan and Abra via identical 10-0 results to match Makati A’s record in Group B of the tournament sponsored by Cebuana Pera Padala, Cebuana Microloans, Cebuana Micro Inc., Cebuana Savings Bank and Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation.

ILLAM also posted a pair of lopsided 7-0 results over Abra and Cauayan for a 4-0 slate for second while Tanauan B trounced Biñan, 16-0, for its third straight win.

Last year’s third placer Sta. Maria, Bulacan, on the other hand, paces Group C with a 5-0 record following an 8-8 rout of Dasmariñas and a tough 2-1 escape over Cabiao.

Rizal stayed right behind with a 4-0 mark after downing Makati B, 9-4, and blasting Miriam, 10-0, while Cebu-Abellana swept its first two games but has yet to face stronger teams.
