MANILA, Philippines - After carving a niche in a seven-year stint with Rain or Shine, gunner Jeff Chan, 33, will wind up his playing career somewhere else.

Rain or Shine and Phoenix Petroleum have agreed on a trade deal sending Chan to the Fuel Masters camp in exchange for Mark Borboran plus a future draft pick.

The trade, however, is subject to the approval of PBA commissioner Chito Narvasa who flew to Beirut, Lebanon yesterday morning to support Gilas Pilipinas in its FIBA Asia Cup campaign.

The two ball clubs, however, are optimistic they will gain Narvasa’s nod.

In fact, Chan was already invited to attend the Phoenix practice yesterday.

A mere second-round draft choice by Red Bull Barako in 2008, Chan proved to be a draft steal, who would later become an important fixture in the national team under coach Chot Reyes.

Through his first eight years in the pro league, Chan averaged 10.9 points on a remarkable .327 three-point clip. He also normed 2.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists.

The former FEU stalwart enjoyed his best season with RoS in 2012 where he won the Most Improved Player award, a Mythical Second Team citation and the Finals MVP plum in their Governors Cup title run.

He’s also got an All-Star Game MVP award that he shared with former collegiate teammate Arwind Santos in 2013.

Borboran is still trying to find his own place in the pros.

At the same time, Rain or Shine decided to change import, tapping in J’Nathan Bullock for JD Weatherspoon.
