MANILA, Philippines — With hopes of cultivating basketball development among young kids, the NCAA will introduce the 3x3 and Kiddies basketball in its 93rd season.
Both the 3x3 and Kiddies basketball tournament will feature under-16 and under-14 players from each competing NCAA school.
"We'd like to support grassroot development for basketball and the primary avenue, as we know, is 3x3," Management Committee chairman Fr. Glynn Ortega, OAR said in the NCAA press conference.
The special events are scheduled from January to February next year and do not have bearing on the general championship count.
"We're supporting the development of the sport but like I said, we're targeting younger players but we're not limiting that to the young ones," Ortega told.
Ortega added that the tournaments will serve as testing grounds and will push through in succeeding seasons depending on the schools' reception and quality of play. - Randell Angelo B. Ritumalta
