NEJ Sebastian tops World Slasher
MANILA, Philippines - Former gamefowl handler Frank Berin bested a huge field to emerge solo champion in the 2017 World Slasher Cup Invitational 9-cock derby at the Smart Araneta Coliseum last Wednesday.
Berin’s entry, NEJ Sebastian, tallied 8.5 points to beat 305 other participants.
James Uy of Manila and Paolo Malvar of Tarlac shared runner-up honors with eight points.
With a new, difficult 9-cock format, the 10-day derby kept all participants on their toes from Day 1 to the grand finals.
The last two championship fights turned out to be cliffhangers, said WSC media partner Manny Berbano.
After Australia’s Joey Melendres (Swerteng Anak) lost the first championsip duel and finished with 7.5 points, Berin took over with NEJ Sebastian outlasting the tough ARC Farms Mar. 27 in the next fight to the delight of more than 8,000 fans.
Day 2 and Day 3 finalists Gov. Tony Kho and Alex Alea, respectively, tallied 7.5 points each, one point short of the title.
The event, hosted by Pintakasi of Champions, was supported by Thunderbird, B-Meg, Petron and Excellence Poultry and Livestock Specialists and Pit Games Media Inc.
