Alapag: Caidic greatest shooter

MANILA, Philippines - Meralco veteran playmaker Jimmy Alapag paid tribute to all-time great Allan Caidic after surpassing his mark as the all-time PBA leader in three-point shots made.

“It’s an absolute honor to surpass the record of the legendary and GOAT (greatest of all time) shooter in Philippine basketball history Allan Caidic,” said Alapag.

“He set the bar high for all players, including myself. He’s been an incredible inspiration throughout my career, and I hope I’ve helped do the same for the next generation of great shooters in our country,” Alapag added.

Alapag emerged the new league leader as three-point gunner as he knocked in his 1,243rd to break a tie with Caidic in the third period of Game Two of the Ginebra-Meralco finale.

Both players made the mark in 13 seasons. Caidic, however, was faster by one game (595) and with a slightly better clip of 36.8 percent as against Alapag’s 35.9 percent.

Alapag, however, could’ve achieved the mark in just 12 seasons if not for his brief retirement after the 2015 Philippine Cup.

Caidic also expressed respect to Alapag, saying: “He’s a great player and a true gentleman on and off the court.”

Caidic eggs Alapag to shoot for more.

But Alapag said it’s time to recharge, refocus and get ready for Game Three of their title duel with the Gin Kings.
