Valdez smashes V-League scoring record with 39 points in Customs win
MANILA, Philippines – Alyssa Valdez added another accomplishment under her belt.
On Wednesday, October 5, Valdez broke another record when she fired 39 points in the Bureau of Customs Transformers’ five-set victory over the Laoag Power Smashers, 18-25, 27-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-9 in the 13th Shakey's V-League Reinforced Conference.
Speaking to press after the game, Valdez jokingly gave a one-word answer when asked how she felt after the game.
"Tired," she said.
"I'm really happy, hindi lang sa panalo. Masaya kami kasi naglaro talaga kami not only for ourselves but also our for our imports and teammates na hindi nakalaro."
The Transformers played without the services of Thai imports Kanjana Kuthaisong, and Natthanicha Jaisaen and middle blockers Pau Soriano and Lillet Mabbayad.
Valdez was not even aware that she broke the previous scoring record of 38 points held by Angela Benting.
"Wow. Nag not over pa ako sa isa," Valdez said. "Sobrang idol ko si ate Angela."
She also deflected most of the credit, saying they were just lucky they won the hotly contested match.
"Sinuswerte lang talaga din kanina, breaks of the game lang talaga. Pero hands down to Laoag, they really fought hard. Grabe yung depensa nila," she added.
