Petron opens PSL title defense against Foton

MANILA, Philippines - Defending champion Petron and reigning Grand Prix titlist Foton clash in a duel of fancied teams while F2 Logistics parades its rookie-laden but talented crew against Cignal tomorrow in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference at The Arena in San Juan.

Already loaded with talents in Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, Jen Reyes, Maica Morada, Mina Aganon and Bang Pineda, the Tri-Active Spikers further firmed up their roster by tapping Bernadeth Pons and Mary Joy Palma as direct hires from Far Eastern U and Arellano U standout CJ Rosario as their No. 2 overall rookie pick this year.

“We’re a combination of youth and veteran players, I like the mix,” said Petron coach George Pascua.

Foton, which will represent the country in the Asian Club Women’s Championship here in Manila this September for topping the GP tilt last year, has also souped up its roster by enlisting the power-hitting EJ Laure and Cherry Rondina.

The Vilet Ponce-de Leon-mentored Tornadoes include Jaja Santiago, Rhea Dimaculangan, Patty Orendain, Angeli Araneta, Maika Ortiz and Ivy Perez.

F2 Logistics, on the other hand, is made up of the core of the La Salle team that captured the UAAP title last month, headed by Mika Reyes, Kim Fajardo and Ara Galang along with former La Salle stars Aby Marano, Cha Cruz and Paneng Mercado.
