Anton romps to Macau GPrix win

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Castrol-Yokohama ace driver Inigo Anton posted another big win at the Macau International Kart Grand Prix, besting a tough field to reign at the Kartrodomo de Coloane racetrack recently.

On board a Kart Plaza-WorksBell racing machine, Anton took the pole position for the Formula Cadet class in the time trials with a time of  1:00.170. He then battled it out with Austrian Constantin Reisch, Japanese aces Seiya Hino, Taichi Tachikawa, and Yuta Fujiwar, Thai driver Tayapol Kongsuwan, Singaporean Tiziano Monza and a host of other topnotch karters from the region in the qualifying heats leading up to the finals.

In the 15-lap final race, Anton dropped to seventh in a field of 11 while trying to squeeze out in between Reisch and Kongsuwan. But the Filipino bet worked his way up to seize the lead in Lap 8 only to drop to second after encountering engine trouble, enabling Hino to catch up.

The two battled it out until the final lap where Anton slipped past the Japanese ace on the last corner.

“I’m so happy to win again here in Macau,” said Anton, who also thanked all his supporters.

“Inigo drove like a real champion and all his hard work paid off. We are so proud of him. To win in Macau twice in one year is really something, he has a great future ahead of him,” said his father Carlos, a former multiple Philippine champion.

The younger Anton, with coach and three-time Karter of the Year Edgen Dy-lliaco, will next see action in the final two rounds of the national series set this month.

Anton, backed by Kilton, Mark Young Racing, Cars Unlimited, Autoshack, JSD Autosport, Special Stage, and Mohspeed, has won three of the six legs last year.
