Chiefs, Eagles, Lions complete Fr. Martin Cup semis cast

MANILA, Philippines – The Arellano University Chiefs, the Ateneo Blue Eagles, the San Beda-A and San Beda-B Red Lions are in the semifinals of the 13th Fr. Martin Division 2 Cup basketball tournament.        

The Chiefs got double digit outputs from four newcomers as they turned back the Angeles University Foundation Great Danes, 121-85, Saturday at their own home court at the Arellano gymnasium in Legarda, Manila.

Richard Abanes led four newcomers who scored in double digits, firing 26 points for the Jerry Codinera-coached Chiefs as they bagged the first semis slot.

The Blue Eagles joined the Chiefs the following day Sunday, drawing 21 points from Dan Wong as they smothered the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers, 83-62, at the Far Eastern University gym in Morayta.

Robert Bolick showed the way with 17 points and towed San Beda-A to a 78-71 beating of AMA Computer University.

Davon Potts eked out 29 points for San Beda-B, which turned back University of Perpetual Help, 75-67.

In the junior division, Infant Jesus Academy Blue Wolves entered the finals after enduring two overtimes to repulse the Xavier School Golden Stallions, 108-102.

Gerome Ibay knocked in 25 points in arranging a finals showdown with the winner between AMA and Manila Patriotic School this Saturday at 8 a.m. the FEU gym.

Mark Ordinario tallied 22 points as MPS earned the last semis seat following an 84-72 repulsing of the National University Bullpups.

This Saturday, the Chiefs take on San Beda-B at 9:30 a.m. while Ateneo battles San Beda-A at 11 a.m.
