MANILA, Philippines — 1-1.

That’s Philippine Maverick Jarmila Gajdosova’s tabs against a familiar foe in Alexandra Panova in the Japan Open women’s tennis action, emerging victorious, 6-3 6-4, on Tuesday.

Although the figures aren’t representative of Gajdosova’s record in the tournament, it was symbolic of her first win against Panova and her personal tally of wins so far in the tournament held in Osaka.

The two have met in once in their careers. Panova, a Russian ranked 134th in the WTA ladder, beat the Maverick Gajdosova, who was still known as Jarmila Groth, in 2013 at the Tashkent Open in Uzbekistan.

This time though, Gajdosova made Panova’s win almost three years ago look like just a mere stroke of luck, after the former dispatched the latter in just two sets.

Panova forced a tiebreaker in their previous match.

This is the first for Gajdosova, who bowed out early of the US Open in the hands of eventual singles champ Flavia Penetta,

Gajdosova will also see action with Serena Williams under the Mavericks banner in the International Premier Tennis league scheduled less than three months from now.
