Iran's Khamrani ready for possible PBA stint

TAIPEI – Iranian star guard Mahdi Khamrani may well be among the new faces joining the roster of Asian imports to see action in the coming PBA season.

“I’m ready now,” said Khamrani as he bumped into PBA board member Patrick Gregorio here.

If ever, Khamrani is only pushing through a planned stint with the Meralco Bolts scuttled by the delicate health condition of his wife during the last PBA Governors Cup.

With Khamrani begging off in the last minute, the Bolts brought in another Iranian player Benny Koochoie then Japanese Seiya Ando.

In this 2016 PBA Governors Cup, teams will still have the option to field an Asian import with a height ceiling of 6’3.

Khamrani, among the best guards in the region, was a top prospect as Asian import last year. He was then coming off a 35-game stint with the Jiangsu Tongxi in the Chinese league where he averaged 16.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 5.2 assists.
