6 teams debut in UNTV Cup

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Action in the fourth UNTV Cup resumes today with Season 2 champion Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) going up against Bureau of Fire Protection at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Led by former PBA player Boyet Bautista and ex-national player Eugene Tan, the Cavaliers are tipped to get past the Firefighters in their 5:30 p.m. showdown.

Other teams seeing action in the second playdate are Philippine National Police, which faces Government Services Insurance System at 7 p.m., and Department of Justice, which tackles National Housing Authority at 3:30 p.m.

Metro Manila Development Authority shocked reigning titlist Judiciary to highlight last week’s opener of the annual event for the country’s public servants graced by UNTV CEO and president Daniel Razon, Bro. Eli Soriano of Ang Dating Daan and UNTV vice president for administration Gerry Panghulan.

Drawing big games from former PBA player Johnedel Cardel, and Cyril Santiago, the Blackwolves pulled off a 76-56 win over the Magis.

Aside from the PNP Responders and the GSIS Furies, also bracketed in Group A are last season’s runners-up Malacanang Patriots, Senate Defenders, NHA Builders and DOJ Justice Boosters.

In Group B are the Judiciary Magis, AFP Cavaliers, HOR Solons, MMDA Blackwolves, BFP Firefighters and the newcomers Ombudsman Graftbusters.
