Team Kia weighing options – a trade or No. 2 draft pick

Joey Villar, Nelson Beltran - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Team Kia has got numerous options on its buildup for its second PBA season, with all the trade offers it has received  for its rights for the No. 2 pick in the 2015 PBA Rookie Draft set Aug. 23.

But playing coach Manny Pacquiao and the team management are not in a hurry to make a decision.

The No. 2 selection could be either Fil-Tongan behemoth Moala Tautuaa or Gilas Pilipinas hopeful Troy Rosario, both prospective franchise players in the near future.

Talk n Text is seriously after the Kia draft pick which is also being eyed by the SMC Group, Barako Bull, Alaska Milk and Rain or Shine.

“We have all these offers but we’re taking our time to decide,” Kia team manager Eric Pineda.

“It could’ve been an easy decision or we could’ve made the decision right here, right now if it’s involving our pick and Ranidel de Ocampo (of Talk n Text),” Pineda added.

Talk n Text coach Jong Uichico said they’re really pursuing the Kia pick in addition to the Blackwater pick (No. 1 overall) which they acquired earlier.

If ever, the Texters will continue its rebuilding program, enlisting both Tautuaa and Rosario.

“Rosario has a potential to be a Marc Pingris. We know Pingris has his heart and passion. Rosario has skills plus a good shooting range for his size,” said Uichico.

Pineda said Barako Bull is offering JC Intal, Nico Salva plus one more player while Rain or Shine and Alaska Milk are dangling future trade picks.
