MANILA, Philippines – There’s no rematch clause in the contract signed by Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao for their May 2 showdown, but that doesn’t meet both fighters won’t ever fight again.
Pacquiao’s chief trainer Freddie Roach believes a second match between the two superstars will happen, even as he expressed confidence that his ward will knock out the undefeated Mayweather.
“There’s no rematch clause but this fight’s so big that I think if it goes like I think it will and they both start early and they both go for the knockout early because Floyd’s legs are nearly gone,” the multi-awarded cornerman told Jenna J of On The Ropes Boxing Radio.
Roach predicts an exciting first fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao that fans will inevitably call for a second clash, which would again be lucrative for both stars.
“I know he’s [Mayweather] gonna start quick and we’re gonna start quick also. I think the fans will demand a rematch, and I would love a rematch because I like making money, so it’s pretty good,” he added.
Mayweather stakes his perfect 47-0 record against Pacquiao in a fight that will go down as the sport’s richest ever, while the Filipino icon tries to become the first boxer to defeat the American.
Roach, for his part, says Pacquiao will succeed – and it will come in the form of a knockout.
“I think Manny will win by knockout. I don’t have a round but the thing is, we have to break him down first and I think in the later rounds, I believe Manny will knock him out,” he said. – Dino Maragay
