UE to honor top student athletes

MANILA, Philippines - The University of the East Manila will honor its finest student-athletes for their outstanding performance in national and international sport competitions at the 2015 Recognition Day on March 10 at the UE Theater, Dr. Francisco T. Dalupan Sr. Building, C. M. Recto, Manila.

Nathaniel Perez, a financial management junior, will receive the Athlete of the Year award for the second straight year.

Perez won the UAAP MVP award in men’s fencing, garnering four gold medals – team foil, saber and epee, and individual foil – and a bronze in the individual epee.

He was instrumental in winning three consecutive UAAP overall fencing titles for UE.

“In addition to his fine performance in the sport, Perez is academically a standout,” UE PE director Rod Roque said.

UE president and chief academic officer Dr. Ester Garcia will grace the recognition rites and convey inspirational words to the awardees.

The student-athlete awardees include:

Chess – Dave Bonifacio, Joymee Morales.

Men’s fencing – Alvin Almonte, Clark Vincent de Guzman, Eigran Lee Ergina, Bruce Kevin Ng, Michael Nicanor, Marlow Nicole Osayan, Kenneth Paraso.

Women’s fencing (eight-peat champion) – Allaine Nicole Cortey, Elaine Kea Gonzales, Wilhelmina Lozada, Keren Pangilinan, Justaine Gail Tinio.

 Gymnastics – Cristina Onofre

Judo – Khalid Macadadaya, Abdul Rahma C. Noor, Ma. Anna Melissa Daniel, Bianca Mae Estrella , Rocindy Rodriguez, Rosario, Nicole Patricia.

Lawn Tennis – Jeleardo Amazona, June Paulo Lyrec Baran, Rodolfo Barquin, Rogelio Estaño, Charles Josshua Kinaadman, Jomar Medalla, Ivan Dame Olo, Rolly John Saga, Dan Louie Sison, Menrado Soriano.
