Blue Dragons smother Red Cubs, rule MMBL

MANILA, Philippines - Chiang Kai Shek College demolished the San Beda Red Cubs, 101-76, to capture the Division 1 championship of the 32nd Metro Manila Basketball League (MMBL) recently at the SBC gym in Mendiola.

The Blue Dragons led from the start and were never seriously threatened as they honed up for their defense of their Seaoil NBTC-SBP National High School crown.

The National High School Championship, sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, kicks off March 5-8 at the Meralco gym and Ynares Sports Arena, with 18 schools on tap, 14 from the provinces and four from the National Capital Region.

The National Basketball Training Center (NBTC), is the duly-recognized grassroots program of the SBP and aims to identify, prepare and develop young male student-athletes.

In other MMBL championship games, San Beda Mendiola-B  downed National University-A, 85-76, to rule Division II; Colegio San Benildo Rizal edged Manila Patriotic School, 85-81, to clinch Division III title; La.Salle College Antipolo crushed National U-B, 77-63, to reign in Division IV; and Chiang Kai Shek College plastered La Salle College Antipolo, 66-50, in the MMBL Girls Championship.

The CKSC Blue Dragons, SBC Mendiola-A, SBC Mendiola-B and National U-A all advanced to the Seaoil NBTC National High School Championship.
