Pinoy karters dominate Asian Open local leg

Bobby Domingo, son of DTI Secretary Gregory Domingo, led the country’s sweep of the Asian titles as he claims the chequered flag to emerge the Formula 125 Open Seniors champion.

MANILA, Philippines - Filipino karters bested their Asian counterparts as Bobby Domingo, Jacob Ang and Eduardo Coseteng Jr. ruled their respective classes to sweep the Philippine leg of the Petron Blaze Asian Karting Open Championships at the Carmona Racetrack in Carmona, Cavite over the weekend.

Domingo of Formula-E Racing dominated the Formula 125 Open Seniors section, Ang of Eagle Cement took the Formula 125 Open Juniors plum while Coseteng topped the Asian Mini-ROK division of the event sanctioned and approved by the world governing Commission Internationale de Karting- Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (CIK-FIA) and local governing body Automobile Association Philippines.

Domingo flashed top form as he topped both the pre-final and the 28-lap final race in 20 minutes and 34.773 seconds or 2.440 seconds ahead of runner-up Macau ace Joao de Jesus Afonso of CKS Racing Team.

Vrei-AR Suba placed third while Hong Yang Yeo of Singapore’s Kart Master Drakar Racing Team and Wayne Darvin of Team Total Racing ended up fourth and fifth, respectively, in the event sponsored by Petron, Magnolia Pure Water, Yokohama the official tires, Motorstar and Vivere Hotel, the official home of Asian karters.
