Anton father-son shine in PTCC race

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Castrol-Yokohama Championship driver Carlos Anton again clocked the best time among 30 drivers to rule the “Touge Battle 4” recently at the Clark International Speedway.

Anton, the AAP Driver of the Year and defending PTCC champion, won the X-Turbo class and earned the prestigious distinction as the “Touge King” using the Mark Young-Works Bell 800 horsepower Nissan GTR.Anton’s nine-year-old son, Inigo, also won in the Novice 2000cc Class using the Hornitex-Honda SIR.   It was Inigo’s first overall class win in his young career

“Winning is always great but when your son wins in the same race, it is just so much sweeter.  I can’t believe he was on the top step of the podium in his first race driving a manual transmission race car.” Anton said.

Inigo Anton battled against Santi Santiago in a Miata for the top spot in the finals of their class. Inigo took the lead immediately in the first heat and closed the gap to Santiago in the final run to take the win

“I would like to dedicate this win to my Tito Enzo Pastor, he allowed me to join my first ever car race last year. I will miss him,” the younger Anton said. Enzo Pastor, a racing champion was gunned down last June 12 in Quezon City by still unknown gunmen.

The talented So Hu brothers of Baguio City also won in their classes, with Gab, 13,  and Raffy, 12,  taking top honors in the Race Car 1600 above Class and the Race Car 1600cc and below category.

Their youngest brother ,nine-year-old Miggy, took the runner-up honors in the 600cc below class. The up-and-coming racers are coached by multiple Philippine champion Edgen Dy-Liacco. Another Baguio boy, golf champ Ely Lagman took the top spot in the Novice 1600 class in his first ever car race.

The Antons are sponsored by Castrol, Yokohama, Works Bell Brakes, Mark Young Racing, Cars Unlimited, Autoshack, JSD autosport, Special Stage, View Park Hotel, and Ethanworxs.
