Narvaja tops Milo Checkmate
MANILA, Philippines - Armand Gabriel Narvaja of Quezon City Science High School swept his five matches to top the junior division for the second batch of the NCR Milo Checkmate summer chess clinic at Starmall Edsa Shaw in Mandaluyong City over the weekend.
The 13-year-old Narvaja dominated his rivals to emerge the top player in the one-day final evaluation event aimed at monitoring the performance of the students after having given them a series of two weeks chess lessons. He also took the most organized player award.
Jerome Gabriel of Sacred Heart Academy of Novaliches scored 3.5 points for second while Marc Joeffil Francisco of LH Montessori High School Muntinlupa and Jan Franchezka Dansalan of Divine Light Academy of Las Piñas finished with three points apiece.
Other winners were Joshua Lawrence Tanate (12-under), Earl Ferdinand Olivares II (10-under) and Cedric Kahlel Abris (8-under). Tanate also copped the most improved player award, Andrew Estacio took the most behaved plum and Mikaela Alexandra Chong received the exemplary display of sportsmanship honors from the sponsoring Milo.

Zachary Africa finished second in 12-U section followed by Rod Vincent Cortes and Kyla Claudette Nace while Andrea Louise Aluner placed second in the 10-U division followed by Estacio and Abigail Jhezerie Ordonio. Samuel Benedict Gayondato finished second in 8-under followed by Jesus Otamias Jr. and Simon Nigel Quin.
