Magcalayos rule ICTSI Jungolf tilt

MANILA, Philippines - Brothers Jonas and Jolo Magcalayo held off their rivals in the final round to rule their respective divisions in the ICTSI-JGFP Baguio Junior Open at the Baguio Country Club recently.

Jonas fired rounds of 46 and 47 Molave points for 36-hole aggregate of 93 points for a four-point win in boys Class A while Jolo pulled off a big upset in boys Class D with a 93 on scores of 45 and 48 to defeat the favored Josh Jorge, who led by four with a 49 but struggled with a 43 the next day, by one in the tourney backed by the International Container Terminal Services, Inc.

Kayla Nocum foiled a triple victory for the Magcalayos in the event ushering in the summer circuit organized by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines and supported by Pancake House, Yellow Cab, Sizzlin’ Pepper, Golf Depot and Philippine Airlines, when she turned back Jona Magcalayo with her 35-42-77 in girls Class C. Jona carded 30-34 for 64.

Joining the Magcalayos as boys winners were Richnell Albano in Class B, Luigi Paolo Wong in Ckass C, Javi Lazatin in Class E and Joshua Cole Cruz in Class F. In the girls division, Annika Guangko was the Class B winner, Annyka Cayabyab topped Class D and Angelique Arroyo triumphed in Class E.

Albano, scoring 48-43-91, finished 10 shots ahead of Christer Sibug (44-37-81), Wong (44-43-87) wound up 16 better than Karl dela Torre (37-34-71), Lazatin (24-26-50) finished far ahead of Aenas Armen Posadas (18-20-38) and Cruz (31-26-57) outclassed Rolly Duran and Andrew Chua by six. Cayabyab (32-28-60) prevailed by 12 over Laia Barro (26-22-48) and Arroyo (6-12-18) beat Princess Pascua (7-10-17).
