1st female bout spices new UFC

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The first women’s Mixed Martial Arts bout in Ultimate Fighting Championship history will headline UFC 157 with undefeated UFC bantamweight champion Ronda “Rowdy” Rousey taking on US Marine Corps veteran Liz “Girl-Rilla” Carmouche.

The fight will be broadcast from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California on Balls Channel on Feb. 24 at 11:30 a.m.

Rousey (6-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is known for her fight-ending armbars and a feared Olympic-level judoka while Carmouche (7-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is noted for her power and grit, winning most of her fights via knockout or submission.

“Ronda is the real deal,” UFC president Dana White said. “She’s nasty. She’s mean. She’s like Chuck Liddell. She goes out there and tries to finish her opponents. And Carmouche is tough as nails, too. She was a Marine and she’s got great ground-and-pound. I look forward to having the women join the UFC.”

Also featured on the card is the light heavyweight bout between former world champions Lyoto Machida and Dan Henderson, while California favorite Urijah Faber faces off with Ivan Menjivar, and the UFC return of Robbie Lawler tangles with Josh Koscheck.

The UFC Octagon, UFC 157: Rousey vs Carmouche will be shown on Balls Channel (SkyCable Ch. 34 and Destiny Cable Ch. 36). Balls channel is available on SkyCable Platinum, SkyCable Gold, SkyCable Silver and over 200 quality cable operators nationwide.
