Paronda, Henares set marks in PNSA national shootfest

- The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Randy Paronda and Daniel “Danby” Henares bettered their personal mark in the Philippine National Shooting Association (PNSA) bench rest national monthly competition last weekend at the PNSA Marines Shooting Range in Taguig City.

Paronda, who recently won in a combat rifle international competition, posted a leading 743 points in the heavy varmint class to claim the gold, while Henares picked up his sixth win in seven contests in the semi automatic class.

Henares shattered also his own previous 698 national record by 15 points after setting a new record of 713 to beat Louie Gonzales (698) and RV Jeremillio (677).

“With these new scores we are at an international level already,” Henares said after continuing his domination of the semi auto class.

Paronda erased his previous 741 record with a new national record of 743 in heavy varmint. At second and third were Gene Malastas (733) and Edwin Jeremillo (731).

Bench rest shooters brace for another showdown in the national match in October.

Henares and Paronda clash for the second time this year in a contest that will determine the PNSA shooter of the year. Paronda is seeking a second win following his one-point victory over Henares in the first contest.

“I will consider the open competition next month to be the most important and since the scores will be sent to the world body I will share my match rifle with Dan Henares so we can improve our scores,” said Paronda as he protects his own championship.
