Baniel, Barredo top Golf for Kidney Care

- The Philippine Star

Manila, Philippines -  Ben Baniel fired a net 69 to cop the overall crown while Jo Barredo topped the women’s side with a gross 72 in the ninth Golf for Kidney Care tournament at the Philippine Navy Golf Club last Wednesday.

Baniel, a home décor trader from Taguig, and Barredo received trophies and prizes from major tournament sponsors San Miguel Corp., Mizuno, Autohub, Del Monte Juice and Philippine Information Agency.

Former Philippine Sports Commission chairman Eric Buhain shot a 75 to emerge the low gross champion in the one-day tournament which raised P450,000 for patients suffering from kidney disease, according to the organizers.

The Kidney Foundation of the Philippines said the donors came from the 77 players who joined the tournament held to raise funds for kidney patients needing dialysis assistance and transplant.

Ed Bolaños topped the men’s Class A with a net 70 while Jun Escano carded a net 72 to rule Class B. Jessie Antonio made a gross 70 to capture the Class C crown.

Nap Tan ruled the Senior’s division with a gross 70 while Vivian Mawis had a gross 73 to finish second to Barredo.

Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin and Health Secretary Enrique Ona hit the ceremonial drives. They were assisted by KFP president Renato Ermita, Jose Rafael Hernandez (board trustee), Vicente Gregorio (secretary) and Dr. Remedios Uriarte (executive director).
