MANILA, Philippines - The Macau Galazy Entertainment International Marathon will be held Dec. 4 with over 6,000 pro and amateur runners expected to participate.

Organized by the Macau Sport Development Board and Association of Athletics of Macau, Macau said some 1,000 will fight it out for top honors in the full marathon, 2,000 in the half-marathon and over 3,000 in mini marathon.

Aside from trophies, cash prizes await those who will top the three events, while bonuses will be given to record-breakers.

First staged in 1981, the Macau Marathon aims to develop local sports by raising the level of running, strengthening friendship among peoples from different parts of the world, and contributing to the promotion of sports tourism.

The international nature of the competition is demonstrated by the roster of previous winners that include runners from Europe and Africa, as well as Asia.

Participants may register in person, by post or online. Registration by post will be accepted until 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 18, while online registration is open until 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 25. For details, log on at www.macaumarathon.com.
