Pinoy golfers off to MercedesTrophy Invitational in Queensland

MANILA, Philippines - Out of over 200 players in the Philippine leg of the MercedesTrophy Invitational, Jaime Fernandez, Richie Santos, Angel Lee and Marissa Vergara are expected to lead the Philippine contingent in the 21st MercedesTrophy Asian Finals set Aug. 23-27 in Queensland, Australia.

Fernandez, Santos, Lee and Vergara – champions in Classes A, B, C and Ladies – will be joined by runners-up Wilbert Tan, Manny Angeles and Anthony Eugenio in the CATS Motors-Phl team, which will battle eight other Asian nations at the picturesque Hope Island and Glades Golf courses.

The delegates, headed by CATS Motors president Felix Ang and country captain Emy Arcilla, will fly to Australia via Cathay Pacific Airlines (official airline).

The tournament also serves as qualifier for the MercedesTrophy World Finals in Stuttgart, Germany in September.

The MercedesTrophy is an annual exclusive golf tournament for Mercedes-Benz owners. This year’s local tournament is sponsored by Cathay Pacific, Shell V-Power, Arrow Shirts, PLDT Business Solutions & Smart Enterprise, and TW Steel and supported by Makati Shangri-La, Sta. Elena Properties Inc., Security Bank, Titleist, Canon Philippines, Seaboard Eastern Insurance, Asia Brewery Inc., and Johnnie Walker.

“We are all looking forward to the Finals,” Ang said, “The MercedesTrophy has become an opportunity to strengthen our customer relations program, and aside from good camaraderie and challenging golf, the active driving safety experience is something every participant really looks forward to.”

All participants will also drive various new Mercedes-Benz performance models in the Active Driving Safety Program conducted by top German and Australian instructors at the exclusive Mt. Cotton Circuit, training ground of the Australian Mobile Police.
