St. Clare tops MMC in mini-Olympics

MANILA, Philippines - St. Clare College turned back Metro Manila College, 61-55, for its third straight win and the solo lead in the 2011 RCBC Mayor Alfredo S. Lim Summer Mini-Olympics basketball tournament over the weekend at the San Andres Gym in Manila.

Mark Gil scored 21 points and MJ Paguirigan had 15 to keep coach Mark Herrera’s Saints unbeaten heading into the final week of the tournament organized by Fusion Advertising and the Manila Inter Commercial Athletic Association in cooperation with Manila Sports Council chairman Paul Edward Almario and District I Councilor Niño Dela Cruz and sponsored by SM, RCBC, Suntrust, Summit Water, 100 Plus, Cobra Energy Drink, Petron, SGV Foundation, ICTSI and The Philippine STAR.

Flynn Macapulay had 26 and Noel Arcilla added 12 for Metro Manila College, which remained winless in four games.

In the other game, Universidad De Manila ripped FEATI, 75-55,to stay in contention with a 3-1 card. Jayzee Garnica led UdM with 18 and Leo Dave Legaspi added 13.

FEATI, which drew 16 points from Kevin Go and 13 from Edward Remolagio, dropped at the bottom with a 0-5 card.
