Obogne cops chess crown despite draw

MANILA, Philippines - Richmond Obogne of Sacred Heart Academy of Novaliches split the point with Kevin Anthony Sicat in the fifth and final round to rule the juniors division in the final evaluation tournament of the Milo-sponsored Checkmate summer chess clinics held over the weekend at ETON Cyberpod located at Ortigas Ave. cor EDSA in Quezon City.

The draw dropped Sicat to second place with 4.0 points. In solo third was Carmella Galve with 3.5 points and Burlington Tiu took the fourth honor with 3.0 points.

Other top three age-group winners were Manolo Martinez, Jico Blas and Marvin Miciano (12-Under); Paul Topacio, Winston Ongchan and Eujenben Abay-abay (10-Under); Shannon Aguimbag, Cedric Lim, Justin Parel and Jedi Carlos (8-under).

In the tournament by levels, the top three respective finishers were Andrea Quiambao, Robin Reyes, AJ Reyes and Malaya Quiambao (Prep 1); Martinez, Earl Parel and Josh Baesa (Prep 2); Jehu Rodriguez, Aguimbag and Winford Ongchan (Prep 3); Blas, Topacio, Heinrich Torres and Tiu (Beginners).
