Pangasinan sea festival set April 30

LINGAYEN, Philippines – The Pangasinan Pista’y Dayat (sea festival) will be staged April 30 at the Capitol beachfront here with organizers lining up a series of indigenous games for the participants in the meet dubbed as Larong Pinoy sa Tabing Dagat.

Games to be played are categorized into two, the beach games and Filipino traditional games, including the fill-a-bucket relay race, water balloon toss, blowing the paper, push-the-ball, shell balancing relay, sack race, tug-of-war (culliot), and going-to-the-beach relay.

Filipino traditional games, on the other hand, include patintero, tumbang preso, luksong baka, sipa, dinoron, baldo (luksong lubid), paluan ng palayok, basagan ng itlog, tupa, dinagi and kadang-kadang.

Alvin Bigay, Provincial Housing Urban Regulation and Development Council officer and beach games committee chair, said that beachgoers aged seven to 45 may participate upon on-site registration before the conduct of the various games which will be held at 3 to 5 p.m.

The three age groupings are as follows: children’s games for ages 7 to 12; young adult games for ages 13 to 24; and adult games for ages 25 to 45.

“Aside from bringing childhood memories among adult participants, these Pinoy games will surely inspire the young players to appreciate the games of their parents and grandparents,” Bigay said.
