- J. A. Rimando -

MANILA, Philippines –  Zamboanga City leaned on its veteran athletes to top the Western Mindanao Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) meet in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur over the last weekend.

The Zambo bets hauled 89 gold, 49 silver and 27 bronze medals to capture the overall crown in the annual sportsfest, according to PRISAA Region 9 executive director Elberto Atilano Sr.

Zamboanga City reigned in women’s basketball, track and field, swimming, volleyball, badminton, chess, taekwondo and karatedo.

Pagadian City finished second overall with 53 golds, 57 silvers, and 43 bronzes while Dipolog City placed third with a 27-2-6 (gold-silver-bronze) tally.

As overall champion, Zamboanga City will make up the bulk of the Western Mindanao delegation to the PRISAA competition tentatively scheduled in Cebu City.
