House honors 'Filipino Flash'

MANILA, Philippines - The House of Representatives has unanimously passed a resolution commending and honoring Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. for his spectacular second-round knockout of World Boxing Council/World Boxing Organization champion Fernando Montiel last weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The resolution, authored by Donaire’s province mate Rep. Erico Aumentado of Bohol, states that Donaire’s victory “has given honor and glory to the Philippines in general and to Bohol.”

“That victory has placed Nonito Donaire Jr. in the world firmament of boxing, which strongly indicates that he would become the putative successor of Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao as the pound-for-pound king of boxing,” the resolution states.

Aumentado said the Boholano boxing champion could bring more honor and prestige to the country as an “emerging boxing power of the world.”

His resolution was adopted by the House in consolidation with five other similar measures congratulating Donaire.

The House accorded the same recognition to Pacquiao every time he went home victorious from his fights. The pound-for-pound king is a congressman representing the lone district of Sarangani.

Pacquiao has been absent in House sessions. He is in the US promoting his coming match with Shane Mosley.
