Falcons hope to break long losing run vs Archers

-
Luigi Trillo has yet to win a game against La Salle since he took over as Adamson coach in 2000. Will things start to change this year?

"Hopefully," said the youthful coach almost a week ago after the Falcons edged National University for their second victory in only three games in the 67th UAAP season.

With a team that’s been together for a couple of years now, Trillo, insiders believe, is bound to reach the Final Four this year, a feat Adamson has yet to achieve since the format was introduced in 1994.

But Trillo isn’t looking that far yet. For him, today’s 4 p.m. match at the Araneta Coliseum, against his former school, is just as important and as crucial for his Falcons.

"I haven’t won against La Salle as Adamson coach. That’s why we’re going to prepare hard for this game. We have to be ready," said Trillo, 0-8 against La Salle coach Franz Pumaren.

Adamson, La Salle, Santo Tomas and defending champion are locked up in a logjam for second place at 2-1 behind Ateneo, the only unbeaten team so far this season at 3-0.

The Tigers and the Tamaraws square off at 2 p.m. in a game that might just take the backseat in today’s schedule.

Ateneo has never gone 4-0 as far as the team’s memory bank is concerned. The last time the Blue Eagles had that chance was in 2002 but lost their fourth match to University of the Philippines.

Ironically, it’s the Maroons up next against the Blue Eagles tomorrow in the game being dubbed as the "Battle of Katipunan.
