Aumentado, Yap examples of no-dynasty—De la Serna

Ric V. Obedencio - The Freeman

TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines  — Representatives Erico Aumentado (2nd district, Bohol) and Arthur Yap (3rd district) were cited for being the models of not perpetuating political dynasties in Bohol.

Lawyer Victor de la Serna, a former governor of Bohol, named the two congressmen during the “Chairman Mao On Board” program last Saturday over dyRD station hosted by Engr. “Mao” Lim.

De la Serna was Lim’s guest in the radio program that tackled topics ranging from social menace in drug abuse and illegal trades to political dynasty and electoral exercises.

De la Serna cited Section 26 of Article II of the 1987 constitution that provides, “the state shall guarantee equal access to opportunities for public service and prohibit political dynasties as may be defined by law.”

He said that not- having-to-perpetuate relatives to any political posts for local governance can be best illustrated in the political lives of Aumentado and Yap.

Through the many years of Aumentado’s public service, he did not have his relatives actively taking part in the political exercises by running for any elective positions in the elections. Yap, whose wife of Varquez family hails from Loboc, also did not have any family member who entered politics for any elective posts, said de la Serna.

Aumentado and Yap, who filed their COCs for reelection, are running under the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC). (FREEMAN)
