ORMOC CITY , Philippines — Electric consumers of this city will now receive their respective refund after the City Council authorized Mayor Eric Codilla to issue an executive order for the release of P38,281,715.97 for the purpose.

The beneficiaries of the refund, covering the years 2010-2011, was based on the electrification program of the city government in accordance with the provisions of Republic Act 7160 (Local Government Code) and RA 9513 (Renewable Energy Act of 2008).

According to Assistant City Treasurer Delia Vilbar, her office has clustered the barangays to have a smooth refund procedure. The distribution will be on Saturdays and Sundays starting September 14.

“The intention of the weekend releasing is to avoid disrupting the normal flow of transactions on regular days”, she said, adding that those who will missed the refund schedule can still claim during regular working days.

Mayor Codilla issued executive order no. 5, amending EO nos. 2005-5 and 2005-5a and reorganizing the city electrification subsidy council that facilitated the release of the refund.

Since assumption of office in 2004, Codilla has been responsible in acquiring hundreds of millions of pesos from the Energy Development Corporation in royalties which greatly help in the sudden rise of the city’s development, but he remained humble.

“The credit for royalties collected from EDC can’t be attributed to one person, these are results of collective efforts from government officials, entities and private citizens of this city,” he told The Freeman. (FREEMAN)
