Iloilo puts up firecracker areas

ILOILO CITY, Philippines  – The selling of firecrackers in this city started yesterday, and the city government announced selling of firecrackers should only be done in designated areas in the different districts.

It also warned that only those who were given license will be allowed to sell firecrackers and pyrotechnics to the public, otherwise they will be apprehended and their products confiscated.

The Bureau of Fire Protection-6, for its part, urged barangay officials to designate areas where people can light firecrackers and pyrotechnics to celebrate Christmas and the New Year.

BFP-6 information officer Insp. Lorna Parcellano said lighting of firecrackers in crowded areas must not be done to avoid injuries, and not to burn rubbers for firecrackers because it could cause air pollution.

She further reminded the public on the proper use of Christmas lights by connecting only up to three sets and avoid hanging them in metals. Christmas lights should also be turned off before they go to sleep at night, she added. — (FREEMAN)
