MANILA, Philippines - Mas madali na ngayong malalaman ng bawat indibidwal kung sila ay may sakit na cancer.
Ito ay dahil mayroon na ngayong bagong teknolohiya ang National Kidney and Transport Institute sa tulong ng KHealth Corporation ng Position Emission Tomography at Computerized Tomography (PET-CT) na mabilis na makaka-detect ng sakit na cancer sa ating katawan. Maaari rin itong maka-detect kung ang isang tao ay may heart disease at ibang brain disorder.
Ang PET-CT ay kauna unahan sa public hospital sa NKTI at ikatlo sa buong bansa. Mayroon lamang nito sa dalawang private hospital sa ating bansa.
“Pet CT are both state of the art imaging tools that allow doctors to pinpoint the location and extent of cancers within the body before making treatment recommendation. It provides doctors better information of cancer to more accurately diagnose, localize, stage and monitor the effects of treatment”, pahayag ni Dr Joel Mendoza, Nuclear medicine physician ng NKTI.
“If an area is cancerous,the signals will be stronger there than in surrounding tissues. Each imaging modality can be viewed independently of the other without compromise, or used together for complementary diagnosis. Pet-CT is a highly sensitive procedure that aids in the detention of small cancerous tumors and subtle changes in the heart and brain.This enables doctors to identify and treat these diseases earlier and more accurately”, dagdag ni Dr. Mendoza.
Kung may nararamdaman na kakaiba sa katawan, inerekomenda ni Mendoza na sumailalim sa PET-CT para matiyak na walang sakit na cancer o di kaya’y malulunasan agad ang sakit kung meron man. Ang PET-CT ay ginagamit din sa mga may sakit na cancer na dumaan na sa serye ng gamutan. Ito ay para malaman kung tumalab ang gamot sa katawan ng pasyente at humupa na ang sakit.
Ang PET-CT sa NKTI ang pinakamura sa lahat ng mayroon nito sa tatlong hospital sa Pilipinas at mga ospital sa Singapore at Hongkong. Ang whole body PET CT (FDG) without contrast ay P50,000 at kung may contrast ay P60,000. Whole body PET CT (FCholine) without contrast ay P50,000 at P60,000 kung may contrast.
