MANILA, Philippines — Suportado ng Presidential Task Force on Media Security ang hakbang ng Office of the Solicitor General na ipatupad ng Korte Suprema ang pag-aresto kay dating Palawan Gov. Mario Joel Reyes dahil umano sa pagpatay kay anti-corruption crusader, staunch environmentalist at broadcaster Dr. Gerry Ortega sa Puerto Princesa City noong 2011.
Ayon kay PTFoMS chief Undersecretary Joel M. Sy Egco, naniniwala siyang matibay ang ebidensiya laban kay Reyes kaya dapat lamang itong papanagutin at maibigay sa pamilya Ortega ang hustisya.
“The Presidential Task Force shares the sentiments of the OSG in its motion to lift the TRO which is preventing the re-arrest of the former governor. We believe that the evidence of guilt is strong in the criminal case filed against Reyes in connection with the slaying of Gerry Ortega,” ani Egco.
Suportado rin ni Egco ang pagsasagawa ng imbestigasyon ng OSG hinggil sa desisyon ng Court of Appeals’ (CA) na palayain si Reyes noong 2018 dahil sa kakulangan ng ebidensiya. Subalit 2019 nang i-reinstate ng CA ang murder charges laban kay Reyes.
Nakasaad din sa 62-page comment na hinihiling ng OSG sa SC na ibasura ang petition for review na inihain ni Reyes sa SC.
