UAAP, NCAA cagers gawing guest players sa PBA--Mitra

MANILA, Philippines — Makakatulong kung palalaruin muna ang mga  UAAP o NCAA players  sa PBA, ayon kay Games and Amusements Board (GAB) chairman Abraham ‘Baham’ Mitra.

Sa pulong ng Technical Working Group (TWG) na binubuo ng GAB, Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Phi-lippine Sports Commission (PSC) at Department of Health (DOH) ay inilabas ni Mitra ang isang special guest licence para sa mga collegiate cagers.

Ito, ayon kay Mitra, ay para mabigyan ng exposure ang mga players ng UAAP at NCAA sa gitna ng coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

“Bakit hindi muna payagan na maglaro sa isang pro league, pero guest lang muna sila,” sabi ni Mitra kahapon sa Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum webcast. “And then believe it or not when they go back to the UAAP or the NCAA they are gonna be better prepared kasi nakaharap na nila ‘yung mga a little older or more seasoned players,” dagdag ng GAB chief.

Naglabas ang TWG ng guidelines sakaling payagan ng Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) ang pagbabalik sa training ng college varsity sports kagaya ng UAAP at NCAA.

Ngunit nakasaad sa guidelines ang pagbabawal pa rin sa mga team scrimmages.

“It was already announce na puwede nang mag-practice, pero parang bubble type practice, isolation, testing and all these things. Pero wala pa ring tournaments scheduled,” wika ni Mitra.

Isa sa nabigyan ng special guest license ng GAB ay si Juan Gomez de Liano ngunit nasa UAAP na kung io-honor nila ito o hindi.

Ayaw makialam ni Mitra sa eligibility issue ng University of the Philippines star guard na walang linaw ngayon ang collegiate cmatapos  lumaro sa Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 professional league.

“We don’t want to impose on the UAAP, on the NCAA. They are not under us, we respect them, we work with them, we look after them pero pinapayagan ‘yung amateur dito sa professional leagues to give them exposure,” sabi ng GAB head.

Dahil may special lisense ang 20-gulang na si Gomez de Liano, nananatili ang kanyang  amateur status habang naglalaro sa Nueva Ecija Rice Vanguards sa ongoing  na President’s Cup.
