Alas Pilipinas to field teams in Asian Games despite volleyball body suspension

MANILA, Philippines — The country will have entries in both the men’s and women’s divisions of volleyball in this September’s Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan because of the country’s current FIVB rankings.
It was announced Monday following the confirmation of the Asian Volleyball Confederation amid the recent suspension by the FIVB on the National Chess Federation of the Philippines.
Alas women is ranked 10th in Asia while the men’s 15th.
Meanwhile, Niña Ytang, Lara Mae Silva and Natalie Estreller withdrew from the PVL rookie draft to join Alas in the AVC Women’s Volleyball Cup set June 6 to 14 in Candon City, Ilocos Sur.
It came a day after Alyssa Solomon also backed out and decided to focus on national team duties.
