Yulo reresbak sa vault
TOKYO — Sasabak sa aksyon si gymnast Carlos Yulo para sa kanyang huling performance sa Tokyo Olympic Games kung saan hangad niyang makamit ang gold medal.
Nabigong makapasok sa finals ng paboritong floor exercise, ang event na pinagharian niya noong 2019 World Championships sa Germany, sasalang si Yulo sa finals ng men’s vault event ngayong gabi dito sa Ariake Center.
Ang gagawing technique, execution at landing ni Yulo sa dalawang vaults ang magdedetermina sa kanyang kapalaran.
“The technical people told me that as long as Caloy sticks to the floor and he doesn’t go (wobbling), and then gets that difficult score in two vaults, he has a shot,” ani Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) president Cynthia Carrion-Norton.
Dapat ding magtala si Yulo ng 5.60 points sa bawat ‘degree of difficulty’.
Ayon kay Carrion-Norton, ordinaryo nang nakakakuha si Yulo ng 5.60 points sa first vault subalit nalalaglag sa 5.20 points sa second vault.
Ang landing ni Yulo ang nakikitang problema ng gymnastics head.
“Coach Mune, try to make both 5.60. And stick to the floor! I don’t care if you use glue as long as Caloy sticks to the floor,” ani Carrion-Norton kay Japanese coach Munehiro Kugiyama.
Tumapos si Yulo sa No. 6 sa qualifying sa kanyang total score na 14.712 points.
Bumandera naman si Korean Shin Jeahwan na may 14.866 points kasunod sina Armenian Artur Davtyan (14.866), Russian Nikita Nagornyy (14.783), Turkish Adem Asil (14.766), Ru sian Denis Abliazin (14.733), Brazilian Caio Souza (14.700) at Turkish Ahmet Onder (14.466).
