MANILA, Philippines — Nagparamdam agad ng puwersa ang Philippine Swimming League (PSL) nang humakot ng 17 medalya tampok ang pi­tong ginto sa 2018 Tokyo Invitational Swimming Championship kahapon sa St. Mary’s International School swimming pool sa Tokyo, Japan.

Bumandera sa kampanya ng Pilipinas sina Pa­larong Pambansa Most Be­medalled Athlete Mica­e­la Jasmine Mojdeh ng Im­maculate Heart of Ma­ry College-Parañaque at Ai­shel Cid Evangelista ng West Manila Christian School na parehong su­m­i­ra ng dalawang rekord sa kanya-kanyang events.

Nagpasiklab si Mojdeh sa girls’ 11-12 200m In­di­­vidual Medley (IM) sa kan­­yang bilis na dalawang mi­nuto at 28.93 segundo pa­­ra wasakin ang lumang re­kord na 2:32.18 ni Michelle Peterson noong 2016.

Muling umarangkada si Mojdeh sa 100m breaststroke tangan ang 1:17.06 na malayo sa dating rekord na 1:19.15.

Hindi rin nagpahuli si Evangelista na nanguna sa boys’ 8-under 25m free­style sa bilis na 15.79 se­gundo pa­ra burahin ang re­kord na 16.16 segundo ni Pinoy Olympian Mi­guel Mo­lina noong 1993.

Bumanat pa ng ginto si Evangelista sa 50m breaststroke sa bendisyon ng ti­­yempong 45.50.

Nagtala rin ng bagong marka si Francisco Corde­ro sa boys’ 11-12 100m breaststroke sa bilis na 1:11.54 na nagpalubog sa 1:11.91 na marka ni Teo Ta­kahashi no­ong 2011.

Nagdagdag ng tig-isang ginto sina Richelle Ann Raine Callera (girls’ 8-under 25m freestyle, 16.39) at Phe­licity Bose (girls’ 15-18 200m breaststroke, 2:59.45) sa kanya-kanyang pa­boritong events.

“It was a great start for our team, establishing new re­cords against some of the world’s best young swimmers in this competition. We are happy with the out­come and we’re hoping to win more gold medals in the coming days,” wika ni PSL president Susan Pa­pa.
