Three int’l postal partners extend aid to PHLPost

MANILA, Philippines - Three foreign postal companies extended financial aid and office equipment to PHLPost for the benefit of employees and postal offices in the provinces of Samar and Leyte that were severely affected by Super Typhoon Yolanda.

Postmaster General and CEO Josie dela Cruz recently turned over S$50,000 (about P1.7 million) to 143 out of the 300 pre-identified employees as part of Singapore Post’s immediate donation to their colleagues from Central, Western and Eastern Visayas.

Employees whose houses were heavily damaged were given a check amounting to P10,000 each, while P5,000 checks were handed over to employees with partially damaged houses.

The turnover took place at Hotel Alejandro in Tacloban City after Dela Cruz conducted an ocular inspection of the Tacloban Post Office and held a dialogue with postmasters to know the extent of damage of the post offices in other affected areas.

Another neighboring postal administration, the Malaysian Post, donated 15 ergonomic sorting frames, 10 computers and 10 printers to affected postal offices as they make continuous efforts to restore normalcy in their operations.

Meanwhile, the United States Postal Service donated four satellite phones that were given to the area office based in Cebu, and post offices in Tacloban, Ormoc and Catbalogan.

During the same consultation, Dela Cruz revealed that a team from the Universal Postal Union, the organization of different postal administrations in the world based in Geneva, Switzerland, would be coming to the country to see the extent of damage in Tacloban City Post Office, which they had earlier pledged to restore.
