Ladies please!

There is no underestimating the importance of a First Lady. As the woman closest to a country’s top decision maker, her influence can make or break a presidency, dahlings. Thus, the Tantoco-Rustia Foundation couldn’t have been more right in publishing a tome that spotlights these women, the First Ladies of the Philippines.

And it was a power gathering that launched the book Philippine First Ladies–Portraits at the Shangri-La’s Rizal Ballroom. Authored by Jose Rodriguez with paintings by his wife Lulu Coching Rodriguez, the book is both history and guidebook, for those who dream of living the Malacañang life.

The evening was a splendid time to honor all our First Ladies, from Hilaria del Rosario-Aguinaldo to now-senator Loi Estrada. Cameras clicked non-stop as each of the living First Ladies posed beside her portrait. Those who could not be present were represented by family members or descendants. The event, hosted by CheChe Lazaro, became a gathering of famille and friends, political foes and allies, and a select group of media personas. Clearly very pleased with the turn-out were Amb. Bienvenido Tantoco and daughter Nedy, whose foundation published the book.
