MANILA, Philippines — Human rights lawyer Chel Diokno said conducting protests on the streets should be legal as long as participants will practice social distancing measures set by the General Community Quarantine standards.
Online protests should also be legal but should be practiced with limts in accordance with the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, Diokno added.
The Free Legal Assistance Group will also create a quick response team to in case protesters are apprehended by police.
Groups opposing enactment of the anti-terrorism bill are planning protests on June 12, Independence Day, which they are dubbing "mañanitas", a reference to a birthday gathering for Police Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas, who held a birthday gathering despite quarantine rules against mass gatherings.
