Panama project simulates effect of climate change on tropical plants

GAMBOA, Panama — The Smithsonian Tropical Dome Project in Panama, run by German plant physiology expert Klaus Winter, simulates future climate scenarios using domes.

"So elevated Co2 tends to decrease the water consumption. Elevated temperatures tend to increase the water consumption. The two together we have not yet, we don't have actual data on water consumption of plants under elevated temperatures and elevated Co2 together," Winter said.
